Samsung LN55B650 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color : Best LCD for the Money
I have never seen a better picture than the one on this Sammy. HD content on it is simply jaw dropping to my eyes. Way too bright out the box, but a few adjustments to contrast and backlighting brought it to an awe inspiring level. This replaced a 62inch Mit$u DLP (broke after just 3 years) and I couldn’t be happier. No more fan noise, no more green push, no more suckiness of the Mit$u. I dusted off the xbox 360 HD-DVD player and watched Transformers again. This TV actually made me like the movie. Much much better than my theater experience. Black levels were excellent and the colors, Oh my!!! This thing is almost 3 dimensional at times.
The Auto Motion Plus feature works as advertised, but I changed the judder reduction to 3 and the blur reduction to 10. No soap opera video with these settings. I haven’t had the set calibrated yet, but I can’t imagine it getting much better anyway. Maybe a year or two down the road, I’ll look into it, but I’m just scared to touch anything now.
The negatives are small, but must be noted. The internet connectivity is very gimmicky as the Yahoo widgets are limited. I checked out Yahoo News, and it has a bunch of headlines, but no full stories. It is also painstakenly slow to navigate. The menu system in general is pretty slow also. There is a touch control panel on the front bezel that can control volume/power/channel/source, but there are no visible labels. I thought there might be some way to illuminate the panel, but could not find anything in the manual. This makes the front panel touch buttons fairly useless.
I for one love the design of the front bezel and it compliments the TV perfectly. Who wants a dull black box when you can have the glass over red carbon fiber look! Ok, I went too far there, but I like it.
Overall, this is a fantastic product and I hope to enjoy it for years to come. When the economy gets better, I will be getting me a blu-ray player to feed this beast. It’s so hungry for HD…

Samsung LN46B650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color : Samsung 46″ LCD HDTV is the Best
Initial set up directions for getting TV into the stand could be clearer but we did eventually figure it out. This TV certainly has a lot of viewing options. You can adjust contrast, 7 individual colors including flesh tones, backlight, sharpness, and a lot of other settings too numerous to mention. The TV remembers the settings for different viewing configurations. You can go to [www.samsung.com/us/support/main/supportSupportMain.do] and download a manual which will give you an idea of the other various settings. (you might want to do this anyway before you buy the LN46B650 so that you can study up on the various settings) This TV does not come with a printed manual. I was raised on the printed page so I miss not having a printed manual. The manual is on an included USB drive which can be accessed through one of the TV’s USB ports or through a computer. I saved the USB content to my hardrive just in case.
This is a 1080p TV so should be good for awhile as far as future changes in broadcast industry. At this time I’m using it in 1080i mode as 1080p is not available thru Time Warner in my area. I can get 720p. I think this will be a good set to have as the digital broadcast industry continues to develop. I think the LN46B650’s capability exceeds the broadcast quality available in my area at this time.
I do not have a laptop computer so I haven’t used the internet options that this set has. My desk top is too far from the TV to run a cable. I suppose I could go wireless and get Samsung’s optional LinkStick wireless receiver(available from Amazon for about $59 last time I checked) that plugs into one of the sets USB ports.
I toned down the contrast from the default 95 to around 50 and lessened some of the other default settings too, as I think this may add some to the longevity of the set. I believe that if you run an LCD full out i.e. high brightness and contrast that it decreases the screen life. Here again I think Samsung could do a better job of explaining the pros and cons of various setup options.
Our set is opposite a picture window and there is some glare on the screen as a result so I usually pull the shade to lessen the glare. I could boost the backlight setting instead to help compensate for glare. LCD sets are supposed to be better regading glare then plasma sets and I think overall it does pretty well.
Samsung hypes the Touch of Color (TOC) a lot and as far as I can see this is really no big deal. It certainly not something I would pay extra for if I had the choice.
Generally we’re pretty happy with this set especially when viewing programs in HD which are gorgeous. We would buy this set again and recommend it to a friend. Overall I’d give it four and a half stars. I would have given it 5 stars if the speakers were more robust. Before purchasing this set I did A LOT of comparison viewing with other brands and I thought Samsung beat the others on flesh tones and overall had the best color. Interesting that this TV has a “store” mode and a “home” viewing mode. I suppose the store mode optimizes the viewing for that environment. I suspect stores boost or optimize TV settings to show TV’s at their best. You probably will not run your set on maxed out settings at home as this affects longevity of the set. Hard to tell what a TV will really look like look like until it’s set up in your home. Try to buy at a store that has a good refund/exchange policy in case you are not happy. I think most people will be very happy with this set.
The speakers in this unit are adequate but certainly not impressive. If you want to feel the sound you’ll need external speakers. This set does have a built in equalizer and I tried boosting the bass some with little difference. One feature that we absolutely love is the auto volumn control. This is especially useful at night when other people may be in bed so that you do not get those annoyingly loud commercials blasting you out of the room. Auto volumn also eliminate volumn differences between stations. You can turn off the auto volumn control for daytime viewing. Again this set is very customizable. We’ve had this set for one month and I’m still learning the ins and outs of the numerous options available.
This set has a nice big viewing area but not too big. It was a significant investment for us and we feel lucky to have it. After putting up with our 27″ RCA that was 15 years old and buzzed a lot and had color issues, this sure is nice. Very nice.

Samsung LN46B750 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV with Charcoal Grey Touch of Color : Samsung LN46B750 46-Inch is Terrific
This TV is a high quality product with many nice features. I’m glad I got this model instead of the less expensive LN46B650 for a number of reasons. I like the charcoal gray bezel, virtually invisible and the fact that it does NOT have the pointed bottom on the bezel like the LN46B650. It also has the 240 Hz refresh rate as opposed to the 120 Hz for the … 650 model.
I did not realize before buying it that jitter and/or blur could be so significant. Even with the 240 Hz these can occasionally be mildly annoying. Apparently the 240 Hz does not work with all content. I’ve read that it is best to turn it off while watching movies. Of course it’s at its best while watching any fast action sports.
I love the swivel base. This allows the set to be rotated +/- 20 degrees. I use this feature fairly often to get the biggest, nicest picture possible, although the picture still looks fine at large angles with no noticeable reduction in brightness or quality.
The remote control has buttons that can be set to light up for easy night viewing. But the manual says this will notably reduce the battery life of the provided AAA batteries. To take full advantage of this feature without having to worry about repeated battery replacement, I’ve ordered Eneloop AAA rechargeable batteries from Amazon. [Eneloop batteries are absolutely terrific rechargeables. I've been using Eneloop AA's in my Canon digital camera for about a year now. Amazon sells them. There are very good reviews from Amazon customers that provide more testimonials about them.]
I also like the easy ability to plug-in a flash drive in one of the USB ports on the right edge of the set. This allows me to show not only .JPG photos, but also videos I’ve taken with my above mentioned Canon camera.
The `Gallery’ feature has some potential, but right now the provided content is limited, and provides only an initial gee-whiz effect.
Similarly, I’ve not tried to hook-up my PC via a wire, or wirelessly. Other reviewers have noted the limited value of these hookups, so I won’t repeat them here.
The speakers are good, but not great. It is generally possible to improve the sound quality of a program by choosing from the software options: Standard, Movie, Clear Voice, Music, or Custom. The `Custom’ choice allows the user to setup a 5 band equalizer to his/her preference. This is a nice touch, given that many people have less than perfect hearing. Better yet, the sound is much improved when hooked-up to a stereo system; the base is hugely better and makes watching movies with quality sound tracks really enjoyable.
The on-screen manual is, for me, terrible. Samsung does NOT include a printed manual. With all the features this TV has, the manual does need to be studied carefully to understand how to use them. Fortunately, Samsung does provide a PDF version of the manual that can be downloaded from their website and then printed-out. Having a printed manual is not only a lot easier to navigate, but also allow one to write in notations for your own specific use.
Samsung’s `AnyNet’ feature is supposed to be limited for use with only Samsung products. However I hooked-up my Toshiba DVD recorder to the TV and to my pleasant surprise the AnyNet feature works just fine; it allows me to use the Samsung remote to control the DVD recorder (which works pretty-much like a VCR). Another neat feature is that the TV turns on all by itself after I turn on my DVD recorder (the DVD recorder has to begin loading the disc before the TV starts itself up).
The last thing I’ll mention is the care required for the screen, or more specifically the anti-glare coating that’s on it. Samsung provides next to nothing in writing on how to clean the screen. The TV comes with a small microfiber cloth, but the instruction on the bag the cloth comes in only describes how to clean the bezel. I called Samsung and spoke with `Level 1′ tech support about this. He told me that the screen could be cleaned with a lightly dampened, not wet, microfiber cloth. Also, never use anything made out of paper on it; this will surely scratch the anti-glare coating. Stores such as Best Buy sell special cleaners for LCD TV screens. The Samsung tech recommended using `ScreenClean’ or equivalent. I believe ScreenClean is a Monster product. I’ve read the woes of others who have tried to clean their screens. For now, I’m totally avoiding touching it so as to not get any fingerprints on it. When it gets too dusty that it has to be cleaned, I’ll then take my best shot.
I’ve noted some of this TV’s short-comings, but overall it is still a terrific TV and so I do rate it 5 stars. I’ve had this set for about 6 weeks now. Knowing what I now know, if I was in the market for a set of this size I’d buy the same exact Samsung model.

Samsung LN40B650 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color : High Quality Crytal Clear Digital TV
Just purchased this unit early May and have been using it for about 2 weeks. My overall impression is very positive, and my wife likes the new TV.
The setup was very easy. The TV does not come with a paper manual; it is loaded on a thumb drive which plugs and plays. We connected the TV to a new exterior roof digital TV antenna and it worked great with few adjustments. There is a channel scan function that finds all your local channels and sets them up for immediate use through the remote.
The picture really is superb if you never had a digital TV before. It is very sharp and crystal clear on the HD channels. We have done very little calibrating yet, except turning down the brightness and selecting the “Natural” style setting. The color is great and very true to life. Nature type programs on the local PBS channel really are stunning and very much like being at a movie theater.
This TV comes with many features and options; too many to cover here. They are all very easily accessible through a nice remote device, and setup menus are easy and straight forward. Without reading the manual, I put my recent trip photos onto a jump drive, plugged it into the TV, and immediately enjoyed incredible large photos from my digital camera. The colors were vibrant, and true to the original conditions.
We have not tried out Bluray DVD’s yet, but we did hook up our 10 year old clunker DVD/CD and watched a DVD that looked great. Music from a CD, Renee Fleming, was enjoyable, but the TV does not have a very robust speaker system and we will be enhancing this in the future with a home theater system.
All the inputs are on the back right side, are well labeled, and easy for a layman to use. I am not a techie, but had no problem getting this TV to perform. Overall, we are pleased with this purchase and look forward to seeing performance on Bluray. I expect the price will creep down further as more LCD units come on the marketplace; we couldn’t afford to move up to that level.

Samsung LN52B750 52-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV with Charcoal Grey Touch of Color : Very Impressive LCD TV from Samsung!
It was time to upgrade from analog so this is our first HDTV. After six months of research, we knew we wanted a Samsung. And with the recent Amazon rebate, we were able to snag this for only a couple hundred more than last year’s model.
The size is perfect for our room and the sofa is about 12 feet away. We have the Samsung LN52B750, Samsung HT-BD1250 Blu-ray Home Theater System and DirecTv HD DVR. The set has a very quality look and feel to it. The set had a minor flaw on the edge of the bezel out of the box and Samsung sent out a tech to replace it with no problem.
This LCD TV has a wonderful picture and is perfect for our living room layout. All settings seemed perfect right out of the box. With the ability to choose different picture modes (dynamic, standard, natural and movie) we have not had any need to change any color settings. The TV sound alone is quite adequate, but the Home Theater System is a great investment if it is in your budget, as it gives movie viewing a true theater feel.
The TV comes pre-loaded with a content library. We found that to be a neat extra, but don’t really use the content library. The content library contains a beautiful, classical artwork slideshow that would be great to silently play when you have company but don’t need the television. Pandora is a great, free, internet music service that is preloaded. You set up your account online and run an ethernet cable to your internet wireless router or pick up a Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter. We ordered the LinkStick and it has worked great. The TV also has Netflix preloaded and the LinkStick will work with that, as well. You have to go to Netflix online to setup and purchase service to stream movies. We plan to do this soon.
Ordered Mediabridge - 6ft Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - Version 1.3 Category 2 - 1080p - PS3 - Blu-Ray and found the six foot length to be fine with the set unmounted but will have to order longer cables if we decide to mount the unit on the wall. We also ordered the Sanus Systems Low Profile Universal Flat Panel Mount 32″ to 60″ Displays. We found that the low-profile wall-mount would not work with the cables coming out of the back as there was not enough wall clearance so we sent that back and will order a tilting or articulating mount later. However, we were impressed with the quality of the Sanus and will choose that brand when it is time to purchase.
We were stuck with our regular DirecTv receiver and antenna until they could get out to install the HD service. The picture was not very clear and was worse than our analog–plan to get HD service along with this awesome television.
